Update: One Dies in Fire at Harmony Apartment Complex, Fire Marshal Investigating

Donald Alan Sutch, Jr. was the maintenance man at the building.

One person is dead after a fire Wednesday night at a 10-unit apartment complex along German Street in Harmony.

Harmony Fire Chief Neal Nanna said heavy smoke was pouring from the building when firefighters arrived shortly before 8:30 p.m. Firefighters quickly extinguished the fire, then discovered the body of a Donald Alan Sutch, Jr. inside the bedroom of one of the rear apartments, Nanna said.

The 53-year-old's cause of death has not been determined yet, the chief said. Sutch Jr., was the maintenance man at the complex, Nanna said. His father is the owner of the building.

The fire is believed to have started in the living room, but its cause is still unknown. A state police fire marshal is investigating the blaze.

Nanna said about 20 people were forced to leave the building. One person was taken to the hospital for smoke inhalation, he said. A firefighter also was treated at the scene for exhaustion.

The chief estimated the cost of damage to the building at about $50,000. The complex is located in a two-story, white home with a large front porch. Its apartments now are uninhabitable.

The Red Cross is assisting displaced residents at the building in finding shelter.

Firefighters from Cranberry, Zelienople and Evans City assisted at the scene.
