Fire Damages Home in Cranberry

Cranberry Assistant Fire Company Administrator Mark Nanna credits quick work by firefighters Tuesday for stopping flames from spreading through a Cranberry Township home.

“They guys did a tremendous save,” he said.

Firefighters were called to Flamingo Drive, a private road located off North Boundary Road near the Marshall Woods neighborhood, at about 1:30 p.m. after the homeowner noticed smoke filling a room, Nanna said.

The homeowner, who was the only person in the building when the fire broke out, was able to escape without injury.

Nanna said the fire started in a storage area located in the basement of the single-story brick home. Firefighters were able to keep the fire contained to the storage room and a small bedroom located in the basement, Nanna said.

Nanna did not have a cost estimate on the damage, but said there is smoke damage to the basement and the first floor of the building.

He believes an electrical issue in the house caused the fire. It does not appear to be suspicious, he said.

The homeowner, who was not identified, will stay with a son who lives in the area, Nanna said. Electricity to the Flamingo Road home has been shut off.

Firefighters from Adams, Zelienople and Callery assisted Cranberry at the scene Tuesday.
