The family of Cpl. Dan Hahn is speaking out for the first time since the Cranberry Township police officer was seriously injured after falling more than 20 feet from a highway overpass.

"We are overwhelmed by the love, support and compassion of people that we do not even know, but that Dan touched their life in one way or another," the family said in a statement.

The family said Hahn, 47, is under heavy sedation at Allegheny General Hospital's trauma unit on Pittsburgh's North Side.

After spikes deployed by Jackson Township police deflated his tires, Booth got out of his car and jumped over a nearby jersey barrier to escape from police. Hahn followed, and both men fell 22 feet from an overpass to the ground near Tollgate Road.

Booth, 22, died from his injuries the next day. Hahn was transported by helicopter to Allegheny General Hospital, where he underwent surgery for injuries to his neck and back.

In their statement, the officer's family members thanked the community for the ot they've received since he was injured.

The full statement from the Hahn family is below:

"We would like to take this opportunity to thank all of the people that have been supporting us through this situation with Dan. Our Lord says that He shall provide all of our needs, and He has done that more than we could ever have imagined.  We are overwhelmed by the love, support and compassion of people that we do not even know, but that Dan touched their life in one way or another.

Dan has so many people praying for his recovery, and we wish that you would continue to do so.  He has a long road ahead of him. For obvious reasons, we have chosen to protect him from media attention as much as we could.

Dan has been through numerous surgeries since February 14. He is still in the trauma unit at Allegheny General Hospital and is heavily sedated. We anxiously await the day when he can acknowledge that he knows we are there.

We would also like to thank the entire staff at Allegheny General Hospital, as Dan’s care has been exemplary and their compassion also has been wonderful. We also cannot express enough of our gratitude to the Cranberry Township Police families.  They have done more than we could possibly had ever hoped for."
