District Court: Theft, Fighting and DUIs

The following people were charged and waived their scheduled July 13 preliminary hearings before

Elmer G. Goettel, 30, of Treesdale Drive, Cranberry, was charged with two counts of conspiracy to deliver drugs, two counts of drug possession with intent to deliver, two counts of criminal use of a communications facility and two counts of intentional possession of a controlled substance.

According to the criminal complaint filed by Cranberry Township police, Goettel sold Oxycontin and Carisprodol to a confidential informant working with police and the Butler County District Attorney Drug Task Force on Jan. 24, Jan. 27, Jane 28 and Jan. 29 2011.

False Identification

Floyd Hunter, 27, of West North Street, New Castle, was charged with false identification to a law enforcement officer. According to the criminal complaint filed by Cranberry police, officers located Hunter at Discovery House, an outpatient addiction treatment program, on Smith Drive in Cranberry at 9:30 a.m. March 26 2011. Hunter was wanted on a bench warrant from District Judge Dave Kovach’s office for failure to make payments on fines, the complaint said.

Hunter initially gave a different name and birthday to officers. Using a photo from a constable, police were able to identify the man as Hunter.

Theft

Hayley Michele King, 25, of Kendall Avenue, Pittsburgh, was charged with theft and receiving stolen property. Cranberry police responded to the Walmart on Route 19 at about 9 p.m. April 5 for a purse theft.

The owner of the purse told police she left her Coach purse in the shopping cart at the cart return station in the store’s parking lot and drove away. When she realized her mistake and drove back to the parking lot a short time later, the purse was gone, the complaint.

On April 9, officers watched surveillance video from the parking lot that showed a woman, later identified as King, taking the purse from shopping cart. During an interview with police May 12, King returned the purse, as well as an iPod that was inside it.

According to the criminal complaint, the value of the items was $1,273.

Assault

Richard James Bisceglia, 29, of Robinhood Drive, Cranberry, was charged with simple assault. At about 8:30 a.m. June 23, Cranberry police reported Bisceglia punched a man who is dating his ex-girlfriend several times while at Discovery House in Cranberry, according to the criminal complaint filed by police.

DUI

  • Sherlyn Jessica Kirsch, 26, of Parallel Avenue, Pittsburgh, was charged with driving under the influence, driving under the influence at the highest rate of alcohol, careless driving, disregarding traffic lanes and restrictions on alcoholic beverages. At about 7:15 p.m. May 19, Cranberry police were called to the parking lot of the Long John Silver’s on Route 19 after reports of an erratic driver in the area. According to the criminal complaint filed by Cranberry police, Kirsch was asleep and lying across the front seat of the parked SUV she had been driving. After Kirsch did not respond to officers’ attempts to wake her up, police used a lockout tool to open the vehicle. After several attempts, police were able to wake her up, the complaint said. Police also discovered an open case of beer and a small dog inside the car. According to the criminal complaint, Kirsch’s blood-alcohol level was 0.299 percent, exceeding the state’s legal limit of 0.08 percent.
  • Julia C. Hunt, 46, of Salisbury Court, Wexford, was charged with driving under the influence, driving under the influence at the highest rate of alcohol, driving an unregistered vehicle, disregarding a traffic lane and careless driving. According to the criminal complaint filed by Cranberry police, the car Hunt was driving traveled into the oncoming lane of traffic on Route 19 at about midnight on April 14 and also jumped over a median. After officers pulled her over, Hunt put her car into reverse and nearly stuck the police cruiser, according to the criminal complaint. Hunt’s blood-alcohol level was 0.219 percent, exceeding the state’s legal limit of 0.08 percent, the complaint said.
