A Cranberry Township man will be formally arraigned June 5 after violating a protection from abuse order filed by an ex-girlfriend.

Levan C. Adkins, 23, of Bonnie Vue Drive, is charged with simple assault, two counts of harassment, disorderly conduct, stalking, loitering and prowling at night and criminal trespass.

reported they were called to Laporte Court at about 5:30 a.m. March 11 after Adkins forced his way into the residence. Adkins pushed his ex-girlfriend’s friend to the ground just inside the residence, according to the criminal complaint.

The woman received scratches on her right shoulder and her finger. She also complained of pain in her neck, the complaint said. The women told police they worked with Adkins at in Cranberry. Management at the restaurant had changed Adkins’ work schedule so he would not be at work while his ex-girlfriend was on duty because of prior problems, the women told police, according to the complaint.

While officers were at the home, Adkins repeatedly called the friend’s cell phone from a private number, the complaint said.

Cranberry police were called to the Laporte Court residence again at about 10:15 p.m. April 13 after Adkins showed up at the residence, violating a PFA filed by his ex-girlfriend. Adkins was banging on the front door of the home and yelling, according to the criminal complaint.

Officers were again dispatched to the Laporte Court home at about 1 a.m. April 14 after Adkins was seen walking around the rear yard of the home. He was gone by the time police arrived, the complaint said.

Adkins was taken into custody that day after police found him at his home on Bonnievue Drive, the complaint said.

Forgery

Ryan Lee Hewett, 29, of Clearbrook Drive, Cranberry, was charged with forgery, theft, receiving stolen property and using an access device card issued to another who did not authorize its use. Cranberry police reported they were called to the First National Bank on Northpointe Circle in Seven Fields at about 5:15 p.m. April 24 after a bank employee said Hewett attempted to cash a stolen check for $120. The check was stolen from Hewett’s wife’s checkbook, according to the criminal complaint.

Drug Charges

  • Tyler Bruce Smith, 24, of Unionville Road, Cranberry, was charged with two counts of possession of a controlled substance. Cranberry police were dispatched to Smith’s home at about 6:30 a.m. Feb. 8 for reports of an unresponsive man. Smith’s parents told police they found a syringe in the wastebasket of the bathroom, according to the criminal complaint They also found two empty stamp bags and two full stamp bags with suspected heroin inside from Smith’s bedroom, the complaint said. Smith also admitted to shooting heroin to medics, the complaint said. Smith was transported by ambulance to an area hospital for further treatment and observation, the complaint said.

Theft

  • John A. Garrett, 32, of 8th Avenue, Freedom, was charged with retail theft and conspiracy to commit retail theft. A loss prevention employee told Cranberry police Garret was seen walking into the store on Route 19 Oct. 11 with an empty shopping cart. Garrett then selected a gas grill from the store, placed it in his cart and partially opened the package, according to the criminal complaint filed by Cranberry police. He then took the grill to the store’s customer service desk and fraudulently returned it in exchange for a Walmart gift card valued at $209.
  • April Kaparakos, 27, of Deerview Point, Wexford, was charged with retail theft and possession of drug paraphernalia. Cranberry police reported they were called to the Walmart on Route 19 at about 1:30 p.m. March 13 after a loss prevention employee saw Kaparakos place a Keurig coffee maker, greeting cards and makeup in a shopping cart and attempt to leave the store without paying for the items. The total value of the merchandise was $205.61, according to the criminal complaint. Police said Kaparakos also had a syringe, spoon and a mirror in her purse. The items are commonly used for inject heroin, the complaint said.

DUI

James E. Hull, 56, of Stockton Ridge Road, Cranberry, was charged with driving under the influence, driving under the influence at the highest rate of alcohol and speeding. Cranberry Police reported the car Hull was driving rear-ended the personal vehicle of Cranberry Cpl. Bill Ahlgren at about 6:10 p.m. Jan. 15 on Rochester Road. Ahlgren had just ended his shift with the Cranberry police department, the complaint said. His car was stopped for a red light at the intersection of Route 19 and Rochester Road when Hull hit it. According to the criminal complaint filed by Cranberry police, Basile’s blood-alcohol level was 0.158 percent, exceeding the state’s legal limit of 0.08 percent.
