District Court: Employee Interrupts Theft Attempt at Panera Bread

Two men from Ohio will be formally arraigned July 10 at the Butler County Court of Common Pleas after said they attempted to steal items from the employee area inside the along Route 19.

Leon Green, 54, of Rathburn Court, Macedonia, was charged with two counts of criminal attempt at theft and one count of defiant trespass. Eric Von Cammon 52, of East 74th Street, Cleveland, was charged with conspiracy to commit theft, criminal attempt at theft and defiant trespass.

According to the criminal complaint filed by police, Green and Cammon took off from the Panera Bread at about 8:15 p.m. May 23 after a worker saw them in the restaurant’s employee area attempting to take items from the workers' lockers.

The employee gave police a description of Green and Cammon, who were spotted as passengers inside a vehicle driving away from the Cranberry Mall parking lot. Police pulled the vehicle over on Route 19 near the entrance ramp to the Turnpike.

Police said surveillance footage from the restaurant shows Green and Cammon entering the employee area and going through items in the lockers. It appeared in the video they were startled when the worker walked in on them, according to the criminal complaint.

Panera Bread employees said they went through their belongings after the incident and did not notice anything missing, the complaint said.

Drug Charges

Nathaniel Joseph Baxter, 20, of Kline Avenue, Callery, was charged with drug possession with the intent to deliver, possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Baxter on Feb 15 sold 1.4 grams of cocaine to a confidential informant working with state troopers, according to the criminal complaint filed by state police. The transaction took place in the parking lot of the Tractor Supply store on Route 19 in Cranberry.

DUI

• Andrew Cypher, 23, of Blackberry Lane, Evans City, was charged with driving under the influence at the highest rate of alcohol and trespass by motor vehicle. Cranberry police discovered the car Cypher was driving in a field off Franklin Road at about 6:15 a.m. Feb. 2. Cypher was asleep behind the wheel of the running vehicle, according to the criminal complaint filed by police. He had a blood-alcohol level of 0.119 percent, exceeding the state’s legal limit of 0.08 percent.
• Christopher T. Bogulski, 21, of Woodbine Drive, Cranberry, was charged with driving under the influence and speeding. Cranberry Police were dispatched to Franklin Road at about 2 a.m. April 12 after the car Bogulski was driving went off the roadway and traveled through the grassy area in front a home before landing nose down in a culvert. Bogulski told police he had swerved to avoid a deer, according to the criminal complaint filed by police. Bogulski had trouble performing field sobriety tests, according to the complaint. He refused to submit to a blood test.

Road Rage

James Gerude Schoy, 55, of Marshall Drive, McKeesport, was charged with driving under the influence at the highest rate of alcohol, possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia. Cranberry police reported they were called to the Cranberry Mall on Route 19 March 3 for a road rage incident. A woman told police her husband blew his car horn at Schoy, who was driving slowly on Route 19. Schoy then stopped his car, exited the vehicle and approached the couple’s car while screaming obscenities and threatening to fight them. Police said they discovered the Schoy parked at the mall. After searching Schoy’s vehicle, police found a plastic baggie containing a pill bottle with a small amount of the marijuana inside and rolling papers. According to the criminal complaint, Schoy had a blood-alcohol level of 0.194 percent, exceeding the state’s legal limit of 0.08 percent.

DUI

Douglas L. Bower, 41, of Sunnydale Drive, Cranberry, was charged with driving under the influence, driving without a license, failure to stop and give information, accident involving damage to an attended vehicle, speeding and displaying a plate card on the improper vehicle. Cranberry police were dispatched to the intersection of Route 19 and Freedom Road at about midnight Dec. 10 after Bower rear-ended a stopped vehicle, according to the criminal complaint file by police. Instead of exchanging insurance information with the other driver, Bower continued driving on Freedom Road, the complaint said. Officers found Bower at his home a short time later. The registration on the Nissan Maxima Bower was driving belonged to another car, according to the complaint. Bower’s driver’s license also had expired last October. Cranberry Police said Bower refused to submit to a blood test.

Drug Charges

Malachi Deshonne Jackson, 23, of Walnut Lane, Evans City, was charged with driving under the influence, driving under the influence of a controlled substance, possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.

According to the criminal complaint filed by Cranberry Police, close to a dozen officers and agents were serving a search warrant at a home on Lincolnshire Drive Feb. 23 where they made two arrests, seized in excess of two pounds of marijuana, more than $16,000 in cash and numerous drug items. Just before police finished up, Jackson contacted the homeowner and said he was on his way over to pick up marijuana, the criminal complaint filed by police said. Officers met Jackson in the driveway.

After searching Jackson’s vehicle, police found three marijuana pipe and two jars with small amount of marijuana inside. Police said a blood test showed Jackson was under the influence of marijuana while driving the car.
