CTCC Expands Community Days Activities, Adds Golf Fundraiser to Benefit Firefighter 9/11 Memorial

This year's event takes place July 12-14.

Cranberry Township Community Chest is readying for to celebrate the area’s nonprofit and civic groups.

This year’s annual event takes place July 12, 13 and 14 at the nd, with help from the Artists Association of Butler County, will feature expanded arts and crafts activities 

Also new this year is a golf outing July 11 to benefit a memorial that fell from the World Trade Center during the terrorist attacks on Sept. 11, 2011.

Firefighters the 10-year anniversary of attacks. Bruce Hezlep, fire company president, said the department needs to raise between $40,000 to $50,000 to complete the project.

So far, he said the company has raised about $18,000 towards its goal. He added CTCC, including Bruce Mazzoni, the group’s treasurer and president of the Cranberry board of supervisors, approached firefighters about partnering to raise money for the project.

“It’s wonderful,” Hezlep said. “It’s a nice way to support this community project.”

Hezlep said the company is starting to step up fundraising efforts for the memorial, including a plan to bring the steel to the parking lot at n an effort to solicit donations.

“Once people start seeing it in public, I think that will generate a lot of interest,” Hezlep said.

CTCC also will hold a “Martinis with Mozart” event July 11 at the clubhouse. Guests at the event will sip on a variety of martinis while mingling with local artists. The $15 ticket price includes a glass and two martinis.

Tickets also may be used as a $15 discount to purchase art pieces from the Artist Association of Butler County.

“We’re putting a much bigger art emphasis on Community Days,” Mazzoni said.

Bob Gillenberger, president of CTCC, said this year’s event would include more activities for children, including inflatable slides. Popular Bruce Springsteen collaborators Joe Grushecky & The Houserockers also are scheduled to take the stage at Community Park during the festival.
