Amanda McCandless, 21, of 420 Falls Avenue, New Castle, will be formally arraigned May 9 on charges of retail theft, possessing an instrument of crime, possession of drug paraphernalia, driving under the influence, and driving a vehicle without the required financial responsibilities.

Cranberry Township police said that around 1:30 p.m. on Sept. 30 officers were called to the Famous Footwear store on Route 228 after the store manager said a women left the store after taking two pairs of shoes worth $145.

A short while later, McCandless was pulled over by Jackson Township Police while she was driving on north on Interstate 79. Police said she was driving erratically on the highway. The registration on her vehicle also was suspended due to insurance cancellation, according to the criminal complaint.

After searching the car, police found the items stolen from the store. They also found a pair of wire cutters. Police said McCandless also was carrying a hypodermic needle.

According to the criminal complaint, police also found other clothing items reported stolen from various stores around the area. According to the criminal complaint, the total value of the additional stolen merchanside was roughly $455.

DUI

  • John M. Huether, 57, of 106 North Main Street, Apt. 2, Rear, Zelienople, will be formally arraigned on May 9 on charges of driving under the influence, careless driving, and disregarding traffic lanes. Cranberry Township police said that on 1:50 a.m. on Nov. 21, officers saw Huether swerving back and forth on Route 19 near the intersection of Ehrman Road. Police said Huether also braked a green light at the intersection of Route 19 and Old Route 19 before driving through the intersection. Huether refused a blood alcohol content test, according to the criminal complaint.
  • Roy Meyer, Jr., 44, of 2517 Chelsey Court, Cranberry Township, will be formally arraigned on May 9 on charges of driving under the influence and driving under the influence at the highest rate of alcohol. Cranberry Township police said that at 10 p.m. on Dec. 15, Meyer drove away after he crashed into another vehicle near the intersection of Rochester Road and Norman Drive. Police later found his truck on Chelsey Court. Police said Meyer’s blood alcohol content was. 0.217 percent. The legal limit in Pennsylvania is 0.08 percent.
