Cranberry Police Warn Residents to Lock Doors After Rash of Car Thefts

There have been more than a dozen car break-ins in the area over the last month.

Cranberry Police are sending a reminder to residents—lock your car doors.

Since June 17, police have received 18 reports of thefts from motor vehicles.

Some of those reports involved multiple cars and victims. In nearly every case, the car doors were left unlocked, according to police.

Residents in the Pinhurst, Clearbrook and Kimberwicke Court have all received notices of thefts in their neighborhoods, according to Patch readers.

Breaking into locked vehicles takes time, so thieves generally avoid breaking in because they draw too much attention, a statement from police said.

Instead, the thieves tend to target unlocked cars and trucks, trying door handles as they move throughout a neighborhood.

Police are urging residents to lock their car doors and to remove valuables such as wallets, purses, and electronics that can be seen from outside whenever your vehicle is parked.

Residents are asked to report any suspicious persons or activity to the Cranberry Township Police Department any time by calling 9-1-1.
