Cranberry Police Searching for Armed Suspect in BP Gas Station Robbery

Police are seeking help in identifying a man with a shotgun from surveillance photos.

Cranberry Township police are investigating a report of an armed robbery that happened late Tuesday at the BP gas station on Route 19.

According to Cranberry police Sgt. Chuck Mascellino, a male entered the store with a shotgun around 10:50 p.m. and ordered the cashier to "give him the money."

The cashier turned over an undisclosed amount of cash before the robber ran from the store.

Mascellino said the incident took less than a minute from the time the man walked in and took off. Police searched the area with the help of a K-9 officer, but were not able to locate the suspect.

He is described as a white male with a thin build, about 5-foot-9 inches to 6-feet tall. He wore a black hooded sweatshirt, blue jeans and a gray shirt pulled up to cover his face.

Police said there was some writing on the back of the sweatshirt. It appears to be the logo of a fire company, but the name of the station is not legible in the surveillance footage.

Police have released surveillance photos and are asking the public for help in identifying the man.

Mascellino said police believe do not believe the incident was related to the attempted robbery at the Rite Aid pharmacy in Cranberry Monday night where a man said he was carrying a bomb and demanded drugs.

Cranberry resident Matthew Macher was arrested Wednesday for that incident.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Cranberry Police at 724-776-5180 ext. 5.
