Russell W. Smith

Smith worked all his career as a civil engineer for American Bridge, Swindell Dressler and Rust Engineering before retiring in 1999.

Russell W. Smith, 77, of Masonic Village of Sewickley, formerly of Franklin Park, died Monday, July 25, 2011.

Born in Apollo, PA May 27, 1934, he was the son of the late John T. and Virginia (Johnston) Smith. He was preceded in death by his first wife Marian (Datt) Smith and second wife Eleanor (Riffe) Smith.

He is the father of Stephen R. Smith of Cranberry Township, PA and Wendy M. Smith of Champaign, IL; brother of Lois Hilty of Ft. Lauderdale, FL; brother-in-law of Douglas (Karen) Datt of Valencia and Darrel Datt of Prospect and best friend and loving companion of Edie Keeney. Also survived by many loved nieces, nephews and three grandchildren.

Russ graduated from Penn State University in 1956 with a civil engineering degree. He worked all his career as a civil engineer for American Bridge, Swindell Dressler and Rust Engineering before retiring in 1999. He was an active member of North Hills Christian and Missionary Alliance Church in Franklin Park since 1979 serving in many roles such as elder, trustee and deacon.

The family will welcome friends 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday and 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the , 388 Center Ave., West View. The memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Thursday in North Hills Christian & Missionary Alliance Church, 2298 Rochester Rd., Pittsburgh, PA. A private burial will take place in Greenwood Memorial Park, Lower Burrell, PA.
