Ukrainian "Pysanky" Easter Egg Classes at Room 101, an Art Studio in Mars

Ukrainian "Pysanky" Easter Egg decoration is an ancient batik method art form. It is rich in color and symbolism and easy to learn. Classes are now offered at Room 101, an Art Studio in Mars.

It is that time of year again—snow on the ground and waiting for spring.

Imagine families in old-time Ukraine decorating their eggs for the Easter celebration.

Young girls would pick their favorite egg to give to that special boy. A bowl would be displayed on the table to keep away storms and bad luck.

One might be placed in the hen house, barn and under the beehive to insure good health for the animals. There would be some in the Easter baskets for blessing at the church.

The eggs are decorated with rich colors and symbols that might represent the rebirth of spring and after the birth of Christianity, the rebirth of man. Legend has it the more the eggs are decorated, the more good happens in the world.

It is a beautiful tradition.

I am once again offering Ukrainian “Pysanky” Egg classes at Room 101, an Art Studio in Mars. I know that students from my past classes have started some new family traditions or had an opportunity to revisit old family traditions. For others, it's just a nice new art form to learn in an afternoon.

Pick a class, choose a date, email your reservation and I will send a registration form. Email mklart@zoominternet.net
