Earn Money Selling at Children's Consignment Sales

Do you have an attic or closets that are overflowing with the outgrown clothes and toys? Then consider consigning them at a children's consignment sale like Sunflower Sprouts.

It’s springtime, your kids have outgrown all of last year’s shorts, tees, and bathing suits, their toys don’t excite them anymore, and you want to free up some space in your attic.

To your husband, this scenario may sound like money going down the drain, and a long Saturday spent sorting, cleaning, and hauling items to the curb.

To the hundreds of moms who consign with Sunflower Sprouts, however, it sounds like freshly cleaned closets and toy chests awaiting the gently used items that they will find at the huge consignment event coming to the North Hills in April.

Sunflower Sprouts, a locally-owned semi-annual children’s consignment sale, will be holding its’ spring event April 13 – 20 at the Northway Mall.

This will be their fifth sale at the mall, moving downstairs and expanding their square footage more than three times in response to their quickly growing business.

The sale will feature gently used spring and summer clothing from their local consignors, along with a huge array of baby equipment, nursery décor, toys, books, games, sports equipment, and play equipment.

The owners are local moms who love to educate families about how to raise a child for less by recycling outgrown toys and clothes and trading up for great quality things that are just the right size and price.

Owner Lesley Bruns, of Seven Fields, gets excited telling moms about how this savings cycle can benefit them.

“We love to hear our consignors say how the extra money earned at the sale will pay for a new swing set, or family vacation,”  she said.

Sunflower Sprouts has quickly gained a reputation for being a sale where quality items can be found for every stage of motherhood.

Whether you are expecting and needing maternity clothing and baby equipment, transitioning to toddlerhood, or looking for the sports gear and chapter books of elementary school, this sale will help you.

Grandparents also love to shop at the sale to pick up toys and games for their own toy boxes, or just to have an extra set of clothes on hand for mealtime spills.

Co-Owner Jennifer Hill, of Volant, shares that “One of the reasons that our sale has grown so fast, so quickly, is that families are realizing that there are many new and innovative ways to be green with the items they buy. Everything can be used and recycled by someone else in a savings cycle that just passes from family to family.”

Since launching the business four years ago, the sale has quickly grown from 71 consignors and a handful of volunteers to 300 consignors and more than 250 volunteer spots filled.

Thousands of people shop at the sale, with special designated presale shopping times for volunteers, consignors, new moms, grandmothers and homeschool families.

Word of mouth is the heart and soul of the company’s advertising.

“When one mom tells another, on Facebook, or in the pick-up lane at preschool about how consigning her kids’ things has helped her, its spreads and spreads and spreads, to the point where we have more than 200 people waiting in line just to enter the sale when it opens to the public”, Hill said.

Bruns is quick to add, “And if you don’t want to be in that long line on public opening day, you need to volunteer at the sale. Volunteers always shop first, before anyone else!”
