Community Corner

Cinema Therapy Group

A new Cinema Therapy Group is
forming in September, 2013.

We will meet on: Wednesdays
(beginning September 18) from 7 pm to 8 pm.

This group will meet weekly to explore characters,
relationships, plots, emotions and metaphors in an effort to:

  • Explore
emotional issues such as: grief, love, anger and sadness.

  • Discover new
    ways of thinking and feeling.

  • Evoke personal
and relational qualities like commitment, courage, authenticity,
    flexibility, mindfulness and spiritual awareness.

  • Realize new
    meaning and satisfaction in life.

Movies can be a catalyst for growth, change and healing, and we
will explore new ways of watching films that will resonate with members long
after they leave the group. Through supportive exchange, members will discuss
the impact, myth and metaphor, and symbolism of each movie.

We will meet weekly for one hour. There is an initial 10 week
commitment. New members can join every 10 weeks, if there is an opening in the
group. Every week members will watch a specific movie at home. The films will
address different issues, qualities and life questions that can be uplifting,
or model a new perspective or inner resources. As an example, we may be
watching movies ranging from “Groundhog Day” to “The Shawshank
Redemption
” to “Silver Linings Playbook” to “As Good As It Gets
to “Eat, Pray, Love” to “Field of Dreams.” This is just a
sampling of the potential choices, of course.

Movie expertise is not required, and the group is limited to
four members.
