Want a Voice in Your Township? VOTE!!!

Eric Gordon gives you a behind-the-scenes look at what goes on during a campaign... and why you might not have a voice if you forget to vote!

Let me ask you a question or two:

Is your front door falling off the hinges from people knocking, wanting to tell you about their favorite candidate? Is your mailbox stuffed with campaign literature?

If you said yes to either question, you must be a "Super Voter".

What's a Super Voter? If you voted consistently in the last 4 election cycles, you qualify for this designation. Candidates use this list, especially in off-year elections, to target their message to those folks most likely to vote. Why waste the money to print letters and buy postage if you know it'll just end up in the trash? Because of this list, only a small percentage of registered voters get anything at all.

In my campaign, I targeted 2,201 individuals out of the 10,514 registered Republicans in Cranberry; the best of the best voters. I wanted to make sure that those folks knew who I was and what I stand for.

Think about it though: Cranberry’s population was 28,098 as of 2010; 10,514 Republicans; 2,201 that consistently vote. That means 1,101 people are responsible for choosing our representatives.

Do you still wonder if your vote matters?...

Sure, I bought yard signs, stickers, buttons, car magnets and T-shirts for poll workers. But I didn't buy all that to get votes. I bought it to encourage friends and volunteers that will most likely vote for me anyway.

Engaging the Super Voters with targeted mailers, knocking on their doors, having a conversation and understanding their issues is how elections are won. I've learned a great deal about what is going on in the township and just how many different ideas there are out there. It's been nice to see just how engaged we are as Cranberry residents.

So, if YOU want to have those conversations, if you want to have that voice, if you want to be a part of that small group that decides our representatives:

VOTE!
