Winter Weather Advisory: Watch Out for Blowing Snow

The National Weather Service issues an advisory for Allegheny, Butler, Beaver and other counties in the region.

The National Weather Service on Thursday issued a winter weather advisory for snow and blowing snow and warns that travel could be difficult because of slippery roads and reduced visibility.

The advisory is in effect from late Thursday night into Saturday for Allegheny, Butler, Beaver and other counties in the Pittsburgh metropolitan region as well as Ohio and West Virginia.

About 4 to 6 inches of snow is expected to accumulate. Strong winds will cause snow to blow and drift.

After a wet Thursday, rain will turn to light snow overnight. The snow will intensify Friday afternoon and evening, according to the weather service.

Travel could be difficult because of reduced visibility and snow drifting over roads. Winds of 15 to 20 mph, with gusts up to 40 mph, are possible. Temperatures will be in the upper 20s.
