PennDOT Announces Weekend Closures on I-79

The highway will closed overnight Saturday near Zelienople and Evans City.

There will be several closures along northbound and southbound lanes of Interstate 79 over the weekend because of overhead sign installation and beam erection, according to a statement from PennDOT. The closures will occur between Saturday at 11 p.m. and Sunday at 5 am.  The schedule below outlines the closures in Butler County.

I-79 Northbound will be closed at Exit 83 (Evans City, SR 528).  The detour is as follows:

  • Exit I-79 North at Exit 83 (Evans City, SR 528)
  • Make a left onto State Route (SR) 528. Follow Route 528 West to Route 19
  • Make a right onto Route 19. Follow Route 19 North to Route 488
  • Make a right onto Rout 488. Follow Route 488 East to I-79 Northbound on-ramp at Exit 96 (Portersville/Prospect, SR 488)
  • Make a left onto I-79 North

 I-79 Southbound will be closed at Exit 88 (Zelienople, SR 68).  The detour is as follows:

  • Exit I-79 South at Exit 88 (Zelienople, SR 68)
  • Make a right on to Route 3025 (Little Creek Road)
  • Follows Route 3025 West to Route 19
  • Make a left onto Route 19. Follow Route 19 South to Route 68
  • Make a left onto Route 68 East.  Follow Route 68 to the I-79 Southbound on-ramp at Exit 87 (Zelienople, SR 68)
  • Make a right onto I-79 South.

The closures will be rescheduled for Saturday, Aug. 25 and Sunday, Aug. 26 in case of inclement weather.
