Get Out: Fish Fries and St. Paddy’s Day Celebrations

It's easy being green with our St. Patrick's Day plans!

No need to rely on the luck of the Irish. Cranberry Patch has your weekend plans right here. Pittsburgh kicks off its annual St. Patrick’s Day celebrations on Saturday, but if green beer isn’t your thing, we also have fish fries and a historic hike. Grab your limited-edition Shamrock Shake and lets go!

1.  Shamrockin’ Pittsburgh

When/Where: Stage AE on Pittsburgh’s North Shore. Doors open at 11 a.m.

Why Go: Party like an Irish rock star with Stage AE, the place to be after the parade in Pittsburgh. The event features Irish music, dancing, food, and a marketplace. Don’t forget to check out the Bell School of Irish Dance and the Michael Crawley Duo on the big stage! 

Price: $10 for Adults; $8 for those in the military, students or seniors; $3 for children age 6-12. Children 5 and under are free.

2.  St. Baldrick’s Head Shaving Event

When/Where: Claddagh’s Irish Pub on Pittsburgh’s South Side at 11 a.m. on Saturday.

Why Go: Get shaved for a good cause. The Pittsburgh chapter of St. Baldrick's Foundation -- a charity committed to funding the most promising research to find cures for childhood cancers -- has partnered with Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh for this fundraising event. Your shaved head will be a show of solidarity for kids with cancer. Bald really is beautiful.

Price: Your time and donation ... and hair!

3.  Clearview Mall Home & Lifestyle Show

Where/When: At the Clearview Mall in Butler March 9-13. The event takes place during mall hours from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m., Monday through Saturday, and noon to 5 p.m. on Sunday.

Why Go: To get you and your home ready for spring. Local business owners will be on hand at the mall to answer your questions about home improvements, health issues, landscaping and more.

Price: Free

4.  Fish Fry

Where/When: St. Kilian’s Parish on Franklin Road in Cranberry from 4 to 8 p.m. on Fridays throughout April 22.

Why Go: The fish fry is the church’s largest fundraiser of the year. Get your fish fix with fried cod, breaded shrimp, mac and cheese, and a whole lot more.

Price: Adult dinners are $10 and seniors eat for $8. The cost includes your choice of entrée, soup, two sides and beverage. Kids eat for $5. Takeout is available.

5.  Harmony History Hike

Where/When: Harmony from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday.

Why Go: Join Venture Outdoors North for an easy three-mile hike led by Venture Outdoors trip leader and Harmony resident Mike Cornell. Learn about Harmony’s history and browse the town’s unique shops at your leisure. Advance registration is required. Call 412-255-0564, Ext. 239, or go to http://ventureoutdoors.org/north.aspx.
