Gas Line Relocation Begins on Route 19 in Wexford

Work is part of the Wexford Flats project to widen Route 19.

The installation of new gas lines along Route 19 southbound begins tonight, according to a statement from the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation and Columbia Gas.

Crews from Casper Colosimo & Son Inc., under a contract with Columbia Gas, will be installing a new gas main and customer lines as part of the relocation necessary for PennDOT to begin the Route 19 Wexford Flats Improvement Project, the statement said.

The right lane on southbound Route 19 between Aspen Road and Longvue Avenue will be closed nightly as needed from 9:30 p.m. to 6:30 a.m. Monday through Friday nights, according to the statement.

Service line work will occur on weekdays from 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. but should not impact traffic, PennDOT and Columbia officials said.

Work and restrictions will continue through late April. Overall work on the Wexford Flats project will conclude in late 2012, according to PennDOT.

The $18.1 million Wexford Flats Improvement Project will widen a 2.33-mile stretch of Route 19 from about 300 feet north of Longvue Road near the top of Pine Creek Hill to just north of North Chapel/Manor Road.

The project, which is designed to improve safety and lessen congestion on the narrow road, will also add a center turn lane, curbed gutters, sidewalks and improved traffic signals at eight intersections.

PennDOT estimates around 28,000 vehicles use this section of Route 19 on an average day.

PennDOT ‘s prime contractor for the project is the Golden Triangle Construction Company Inc. of Imperial, PA.
