Please Pass the Cucumbers
As a child we spent Thanksgiving at my Grandparents McCurdy’s farm. The family was fabled for their cucumbers & onions soaked in brine served with a white sauce. My sister, I suppose because she had the cute factor going for her, said grace when she was old enough to put together the words. She loved those cucumbers and always ended grace with, “Amenpleasepassthecucumbers”. She wasn’t willing to risk someone else getting them.
Well, this next show was supposed to be David Olney & Sergio Webb. Our friend, Nashville agent Mary Sack, called us some time back to say that their anchor show in Winchester changed owners and they were cancelled. When there is no anchor, small venues like ours can’t support the tour, and we too were cancelled. So Mary suggested Irene, a former Latrobe native, now Nashville habitué that I’d actually tried to get for the Harmony Roots festival 2 years ago but her former agent dropped the ball. Anyway, we said yes and the ink wasn’t dry before folks from the bluegrass community started calling or emailing to support our decision. We will open with friends of hers from the Latrobe days, Howard Davidson, Greg Davis (both regularly played with me in the Lonesome No More Band…back in the days when I had time to do that) and Jack Jenny, flat picker of the 1st order. As Sis says, “Amenpleasepassthecucumbers”. C’mon out and support live music.
