Free and fun things to do around our area

So much to do and so little time—isn't that how the holiday weekends always are?

I want to add to your fun chaos this weekend with some great things you can do as a family. These events are all family friendly, free and, best of all, on a holiday weekend. Enjoy!

The New Castle Arts Festival will be held May 26 & 27 (Memorial Day weekend). Entertainment is Rain or Shine! There are huge children’s Areas with activities of all sorts, strolling singer, Chinese auctions, live pottery demonstrations and more.  

With all the great weather we are going to have, how about joining the Mingo Creek Public Star Watching Party Saturday, May 26. This evening family event is free—and you don't need a telescope. Let the pros show you the skies in a way you have never looked at them before.

Lowes Kids Build-N-Grow Ice Cream Truck: You have to pre-register, but the fun is so worth it. This is a free workshop using hammers and nails. Workshops happen twice a month at Lowe’s. It builds self-esteem and great relationships ... and it's FREE!

: Free, fabulous Memorial Day event in Mt. Lebanon Sunday 7:30 p.m. by the ice skating rink! Mt. Lebanon’s new Veteran's Memorial off Morgan Drive will be dedicated Sunday night. The planning has been extensive and the project has been a two-year initiative to honor the men and women veterans who served our country.

A driving force behind the project, as well as the the keynote speaker, is Mt. Lebanon resident and former Pittsburgh Steeler Rocky Bleier. Bleier is a Vietnam Veteran.

So much is planned for this night from music to a formal flag raising by the Marine Corps League's honor guard. It is sure to be an wonderful event. Hope to see you there. The construction was contracted through VENTO LANDSCAPING & CONSTRUCTION  

VERY INEXPENSIVE FUN

If you are in uniform (police, fire, etc), retired military or active military, go to Niko's Cream and Bean and receive any ice cream buy one get one free. That's all weekend long Starting Friday!  

Niko's Coffee House is offering a new line of beverages for children! If you are stopping by, make sure to bring the kids. Hot chocolate, hot tea, iced tea and fresh fruit smoothies are all $1 for kids 12 and younger.
