Local Girl Scout Bailyn Bench Earns her Gold Award

Girl Scouts Western Pennsylvania is honored to present Bailyn Allison Bench with the Girl Scout Gold Award, the highest recognition for achievement in Girl Scouting. Bailyn Bench is daughter of Bill and Christine Bench of Cranberry Twp.

As a Girl Scout member for 11 years, Bailyn started as a Daisy Girl Scout with Troop 20492 and supported in her Gold Award effort by her leaders, Mrs. Christine Bench and Mrs. Holly Galeza. She is in the Cranberry Area Girl Scouts.

Her Gold Award Project, called “Art to Heal the Heart”, began in February, 2013 and was completed in August, 2013. Her project consisted of bi-monthly art sessions held at a local domestic violence shelter. The sessions provided adult and kid victims of domestic violence abuse with an art class that gave them an opportunity to have fun and relax while in their safe haven environment. It provided them a chance to learn more about art and to be creative in a positive way during the classes. She also displayed the art at the local municipal building, as well as framed the art and donated to the shelter.
