Girl Scout Gold Award Spotlight: Emma Harting

Gold Award Spotlight: Emma Harting

Emma Harting from Cranberry Troop 20520 created a children's lending library at English Lutheran Church in Zelienople.  This library gives children the opportunity to borrow books to read at their own pace if they don't have time to read them at church.  In addition, the library will provide resources for adults to teach the children valuable biblical values and provide parents resources to keep their children occupied during church worship services.

Emma is a shining example how Girl Scouts can take on a challenge and overcome obstacles to make a difference in the world.  She has epilepsy and doesn't let that define who she is and what she can accomplish. Girl Scouting is full of girls with a wide variety of challenges - learning, emotional, physical - and helps them learn who they are and who they want to be is entirely possible.

Ann, Emma's supportive mother, says " Other disabled scouts we have in the neighborhood may think they can't achieve this, but they absolutely can. They just need to let the council be aware of the nature of their disability & if accommodations are necessary, the council will work with your scout to help them be successful."

Cranberry Area Girl Scouts are very proud of Emma and all of her accomplishments and wish her the best as she attends classes to be a vet-tech at the Pittsburgh Veterinary Technical Institute.  She knows that the road ahead will not be easy but she is willing to stay the course and eventually she will achieve her goals.  She is an inspiration and certainly a great example for all our scouts.
