What's Under Construction in Cranberry?

Get a gander at what's new—and what's just opened—in the area.

It seems like everywhere you look in Cranberry these days there’s a crane or a bulldozer at work on a new development.

For those curious about what’s under construction in Cranberry, we’ve put together a handy list—and some photos.

Hilton Garden Inn

You’ve watched it go from a foundation to a five-story brick edifice overlooking Route 228. Now, the Hilton Garden Inn is just about ready to open. Featuring The Great American Grill restaurant, the 136-room hotel is scheduled to begin welcoming guests May 29.

Courtyard by Marriott

The Hilton Garden Inn isn’t the only new hotel in town. A Courtyard by Marriott is being built from the ground up on Cranberry Woods Drive, just a stone’s throw from the already-established (and larger) on Route 228. Designed with business travelers in minds, the Courtyard in Cranberry will be five stories and have 125 rooms.   

Cranberry Crossroads

Formerly a campground, work is well underway on theshopping center, a 98,940-square-feet retail space with a two-story Dick’s Sporting Goods store as its anchor.

According to a listing of businesses in the works on the Cranberry Township website, a Men’s Warehouse also will call Cranberry Crossroads home. In April, for the property.

ECHO Realty, a Pittsburgh-based real estate and retail development company, is developing the shopping center. The Elmhurst Group also is developing 90,000 square feet of business and professional office space for the same area. Once finished, the plaza will include pedestrian and bike paths. There also are plans for a gazebo, trees, shrubs, benches and other landscaping details required by the township’s streetscape enhancement ordinance.

AutoZone

The building that once held a (which has since moved to a new location on Route 19) and a laundromat has been demolished. It is being replaced by a 7,381 square-foot AutoZone auto parts store now under construction.

Sheetz

It's Sheetz times two for Cranberry.

T The new 6,558 square-foot, eight-pump and convenience store—plus a freestanding car wash—will be located on the site of a former beer distributor on Old Freedom Road. Sheetz leases its current property from J.J. Gumberg, a real estate development company that also owns the Cranberry Mall. Once the new gas station is ready, Sheetz will remove its signage and the underground distribution tanks that hold petroleum from the property.

In April, The first phase of the project will be a Sheetz gas station and convenience store. Sheetz also will help f Work on that project could begin in the next several months.

Grace Community Church

The church is building a new, larger home overlooking Marshall Road. is on Mystic Pine Trail off Freedom Road. The new building, which will house the church’s burgeoning congregation, is 62,622 square foot, according to plans on the Cranberry Township website.

Victory Family Church

In December, that will house a sanctuary with stadium seating. Pastor John Nuzzo has said he hopes the sanctuary will be finished by next May.

Georgetown Square

After , construction is moving along on Georgetown Square off Freedom Road. Dan Ryan Builders is building the 73 single-family residential units and 21 townhomes on the property, according to the township website.

Route 228

This one’s a doozy.

There are multiple construction projects happening on Route 228, including a coordinated series of traffic enhancements along a three-mile stretch of the highway. The upgrades include turning lanes, highway-access ramps and a new connecting road. For more information on Route 228 construction,

Just Opened!

Double Wide Grill: After a long construction process, the Double Wide Grill on Route 228 in Adams Township is open—kind of. The restaurant, which specializes in barbeque, vegan and vegetarian foods, is —for now—open only in the evenings. The owners of Double Wide, which also has a location on Pittsburgh’s South Side, expect to be fully open—and serving lunch—in the coming weeks.

Total Hockey: A privately-held hockey equipment retailer with 12 stores in the St. Louis, Chicago and Minneapolis-St. Paul areas, Total Hockey opened Saturday inside in Cranberry. For more on Total Hockey’s opening in the area,
