Total Hockey Opens in Cranberry

Hockey players and fans alike have a new Mecca for their favorite sport.

Total Hockey, a privately-held hockey equipment retailer with 12 stores in the St. Louis, Chicago and Minneapolis-St. Paul areas, opened Saturday insidealong Route 19 in Cranberry.

The store is the first Total Hockey in Pittsburgh—but not the last.

Andrea Roewe, director of marketing, said a Total Hockey also is opening in Robinson Township later this month.

“There’s a pretty steady growth with the hockey in the area,” Roewe said of entering the Pittsburgh market. “That’s a huge thing for us.”

Once inside the Total Hockey store, it’s all hockey—all the time.

The location in Cranberry offers everything from hockey apparel to sticks, helmets and skates. One section of the store features comfy couches where shoppers can take a seat and watch hockey games and interviews play out on several flat-screen televisions.

There’s also a full skate repair station inside the store with a boot press and skate sharpening.

“We have just about anything imaginable hockey-wise,” said store manager Tim Balis.

The company, which has been teamed up with USA Hockey for the last four years, also expects to reach out to local hockey organizations.

“We do a lot with youth hockey and to grow the sport and increase interest,” Roewe said.

Along with being a sponsor of the USA Hockey Grow the Game Program, Total Hockey has it own charitable program called Hockey Heroes. This program asks customers as the checkout counter to donate a dollar to support charitable organizations selected in part with USA Hockey.

Besides the store opening in Robinson, Roewe said the company plans to open four additional Total Hockey stores in other parts of the country this year. The locations for those store have not been decided yet, she said.
