Theater Expansion in the Works for Cranberry Cinemas

The theater plans to add more than 6,000 square feet of space.

More movie space could be coming soon to the Cranberry Cinemas.

Ron Henshaw, Cranberry director of community development, said the family-owned theater, which is located at the Cranberry Mall off Freedom Road, has submitted plans to the township to expand the cinema by 6,071 square feet.

Henshaw said the theater plans to take over the neighboring Subway, which has since moved to a new location in the mall.

The theater also will add a roughly 2,388 square feet addition to the building in front of Subway, squaring it off with the current entrance to the theater.

Henshaw said the expansion is expected to add three additional screening rooms to the cinema.

Cranberry’s planning commission members reviewed the plans for the theater Monday night. They are expected to vote on whether to approve the expansion at their next meeting on Sept. 3.
