After nearly a year of construction, the new Courtyard by Marriott hotel in Cranberry officially opened for business Friday, Dec. 7.
Among the amenities are an always-open food and beverage market, “media pods,” Wi-Fi, a fitness center, an indoor pool and an outdoor fire pit.
Of the 125 sleek and stylish rooms, 55 feature queen-sized beds and 54 have king-sized beds. There also are 16 suites with refrigerators and microwave ovens to accommodate those on an extended stay at the hotel.
Greg Horeth, regional vice-president of Winegardner & Hammons, the Cincinnati-based group that developed the hotel on behalf of its parent company, Western & Southern Financial Group, said the hotel’s location in the Cranberry Woods office park, home to the Westinghouse headquarters and Mine Safety Appliances, was a major factor in the company’s decision to open a second Marriott hotel in the area.
“You are sitting in a Class "A" office space environment,” he said.
The new Courtyard by Marriott is sits just behind the larger Pittsburg While that Marriott, which has 295 rooms, is a full-service hotel with a restaurant, bar and banquet space, the Courtyard by Marriott was designed with business travelers in mind.
The hotel features the enhanced GoBoard® 4.0, a 55-inch LCD touch screen that shows local information, maps, weather and headline news. The board also allows guests to send directions directly to their smart phones and also gives them immediate access to detailed flight information for local airports and popular entertainment.
Horeth said the hotel employs 24 people. General manager Rick Antestenis, who previously worked as assistant general manager at the Pittsburgh Marriott North, said the first guests already have booked their stay at the new hotel. In December, there already are 400 rooms reserved for the month, he said.
Cranberry Patch took a tour of the five-story hotel, which includes a groovy looking front lobby and The Bistro, a casual restaurant offering breakfast and light evening fare, including snacks, cocktails, wine and beer.
