Plans Move Forward for Cranberry Cinemas Expansion

The theater plans to add two new screening rooms.

Cranberry Cinemas could soon offer viewers two additional screening rooms at the complex in Cranberry.

At Tuesday’s meeting, planning officials recommended approval of plans to expand the theater, located in the Cranberry Mall off Freedom Road, by 6,071 square feet.

As part of the extension, the family-owned theater will take over the neighboring Subway, which has since moved to a new location in the mall.

A roughly 2,388 square feet addition would be added to the building in front of Subway, squaring it off with the current entrance to the theater, according to ‎George Haberman, senior project manager at Civil & Environmental Consultants, Inc.

He added the expansion would add two additional screening rooms to the theater. Both viewing rooms will include stadium seating.

The addition will cause the parking lot to lose several spaces, Haberman said.

As part of the township’s streetscape enhancement requirements, developers also will add plants, shrubbery, sidewalks and a bike rack to the front of the mall’s parking lot along Freedom Road.

A crosswalk also will be added connecting the mall to the Sheetz convenience store and gas station located across the way on Freedom Road.

Up next, the plans will go before Cranberry’s Board of Supervisors for final approval.
