Paint Monkey Holding Grand Opening in Cranberry

The celebration includes food, drinks and painting for kids.

After months of planning and construction, Paint Monkey in Cranberry is ready to open its doors to the public.

“We’re excited,” said Mary Lou Bradley, who along with husband Joe Groom owns the studio. “It’s been a journey getting to this point.”

From 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 21, Paint Monkey will hold a grand opening celebration at its new location at 1301 Freedom Road in Cranberry at the former Cranberry Rolling Express tobacco retailer.

Bradley and Groom also are the owners of the popular Paint Monkey studio at the Ice House Studios in Lawrenceville.

After discovering many of their clientele traveled from north of Pittsburgh to attend classes, they decided to open a second location in Cranberry.

“We talked to all these people from Cranberry and a lot of people were from up north,” Bradley said. “There were even people from as far away Erie, New Castle, Youngstown.”

Named after the phrase “Monkey See, Monkey Do,” the painting studio features two and three-hour art classes where participants paint pre-sketched canvases. For those age 21 and older, Paint Monkey is BYOB.

Bradley said the venue often plays hosts to bachelorette parties, ladies nights out and other gatherings. Paint Monkey also offers activities for kids, birthday parties and team building exercises for companies and organizations.

No matter their reason is for visiting Paint Monkey, everyone gets to take home their own painting.

“Everyone does the same painting. Everyone paints the same thing,” Groom said.

Bradley said the Cranberry location would be open most evenings for classes, but clients may also schedule birthday parties for adults and children, corporate team building and outings.
