Now Open: Juniper Grill Brings "Cowboy Cuisine" to Cranberry

The eatery, which also has a location in Peters Township, specializes in fresh American cuisine with a southwest flair.

Just call it how the west was “yum."

A few days prior to Easter, Juniper Grill, an upscale eatery specializing in southwest cuisine, opened its doors along Route 228 in Cranberry.

“It has been received very favorably,” said Larry Lang, the restaurant’s general manager. “Everyone who has come in has loved it.”

Owned by Restaurant Holdings Inc., which also operates the Atria’s restaurants in the region and the Mike Ditka’s restaurant in Chicago and in Robinson Township, Juniper Grill also has a location in Peters Township.

Land said the restaurant’s menu features “Cowboy Cuisine,”—that’s American cuisine with a southwest flair—in a cozy and modern environment.

The restaurant, located in the Cranberry Crossroads shopping plaza, also offers handmade margaritas, sipping tequilas, craft beers and an extensive wine list.

“We make our own sours mix from scratch, so nothing from a jug,” Lang said. “It’s just the perfect compliment to the area.”

Like the drinks, the restaurant’s food is made fresh, from scratch, every day, Lang said. Some of the restaurant’s specialties include rotisserie chicken, fish tacos and slow-smoked beef brisket. There also is a large variety of gluten-free foods.

“Our short rib is to die for,” Lang said. “So far, we’ve also had guests telling us we have the best burger they’ve ever tasted.”

The restaurant’s décor matches its California cool vibe with warm wood and stone accents in a cozy environment.

Lang said the restaurant seats about 160 people. There also is an outdoor patio that's open year round. While the weather is cool, the patio provides diners with a covered, heated space.

Lang said the restaurant group wanted to open a second Juniper Grill location in Cranberry because the community shares similar demographics to the growing Peters Township area in Washington County.

“It’s also very favorable to the guest profile we’re looking for—The 25-to-55-year -old professional,” Lang said.

Juniper Grill isn't stopping with Cranberry. Lang said the company hopes to open more locations around the country. He added the Peters Township restuarant has been very successful since opening two years ago.

"We're looking at several other sites," he said. "The key was to make sure we got it right with first one."
