Freedom Road Sheetz Gets an Opening Date

The company will vacate its current Freedom Road location on the same day the new store opens.

Those craving an MTO or specialty Coffeez are in for a treat.

After months of construction, the Sheetz on Freedom Road in Cranberry is about to open.

Sheetz spokeswoman Monica Jones said the new gas station and convenience store is expected to open Thursday, Sept. 27.

“It’s been a long time in coming,” she said.

On the same day the new location opens, Sheetz will vacate the 26-year-old building it currently leases from LG Realty Advisors Inc. That building, also located on Freedom Road, is about a stone’s throw from the new store.

“They’re doing what’s called a seamless transition,” Jones said. “The opening and closing are within minutes of each other, so there’s as little disruption for customers as possible.”

David Mastrostefano, engineering permit manager for Sheetz, said the company would remove its signs and underground distribution tanks that hold petroleum when it leaves the current property.

At 6,558 square feet, the new eight-pump Sheetz is about twice the size of the current location, which has four gas pumps. There also is a separate 1,049 square foot car wash located on the property, which was once home to a beer distributor.

Jones said the new location would have an expanded Sheetz Brothers Coffeez station and an improved brewing system. She added Sheetz is adding new and remodeled stores in markets that, like Cranberry, have older stores. The Sheetz on Freedom Road will be of the company’s latest design, she said.

“We’re building a lot of new stores, so we want to give customers in those more mature markets the same experience,” she said.

That’s not the only Sheetz that’s in store for Cranberry.

The hillside at the intersection of Ehrman Road and Route 19 has been graded in preparation for the Century Business Park, which will include a Sheetz gas station and convenience store. Sheetz also will help fund a traffic signal at the intersection of Ehrman Road and Route 19.

Jones said that store is about a year away from opening. Construction on the building is expected to start in May, she said.
