Officials also approve plans for the first phase of a new neighborhood located near the Cranberry Highland golf course.

More development is in the works for Cranberry Township.

At Thursday’s Board of Supervisors meeting, Cranberry officials approved plans for the Cranberry Crossroads West retail complex on Route 228, a Farmers Bank on Route 19 and a new neighborhood to be located at the intersection of Glen Eden and Freshcorn roads.

Cranberry Crossroads West

Located adjacent to the already-established Cranberry Crossroads development on Route 228, the Cranberry Crossroads West retail complex includes 12,106 square feet of retail space and a 5,500 square foot restaurant on 4.4 acres of property.

The proposed multi-tenant Cranberry Crossroads West will abut the La-Z-Boy furniture store. The restaurant, which does not have a tenant yet, will be located in a separate building in front of the complex.

The space also could include an Anthony’s Coal Fired Pizza. At their March 27 meeting, Cranberry supervisors voted unanimously to approve a liquor license transfer for the restaurant.

The restaurant, which specializes in "well-done" pizzas, wings and other Italian dishes cooked in a coal-burning oven, would be located at the end of the multi-tenant space building.

Joseph Tassone, director of engineering for ECHO Realty, the developer for the project, said construction on Cranberry Crossroads West could begin by May or June. The hope is to have the complex open by late summer or early fall, he said.

Farmers National Bank

Supervisors also approved plans for a which will be located on two acres at the corner of Ogleview Drive and Route 19.

The spot currently is home to the Cranberry Veterinary Hospital. Dr. Gunther Lill opened the practice in 1971 and still sees pets there today.

The building would be razed to make way for the bank. Cranberry resident Bill Marsh, president and CEO of Farmers, said demolition on the hospital could begin by mid summer.

The new bank, which includes a drive through teller’s window and extensive landscaping, is expected to be open by early 2014. This will be the second Farmers Bank location in Butler County and the first in Cranberry.

“We’re excited to be here,” Marsh said.

Lill, who noted he used to examine horses and cows when Cranberry was still a farming community, said he plans to make his veterinarian practice a house call service.

"It's going to continue on a smaller scale," he said.

The Links of Cranberry

Also approved were plans for Phase 1 of a new neighborhood to be located on 23 acres at the intersection of Glen Eden Road and Freshcorn Road near the Cranberry Highlands Golf Club.

The first phase of the development includes 21 single-family homes and 20 houses.

A later phase of the development will include 252 apartment units, called Cranberry Vista apartments. The neighborhood will have Traditional Neighborhood Development elements, which include extensive landscaping, parklets and pedestrian walkways. The plans also show a community center and a pool.

A roundabout—similar to the one in front of the Westinghouse headquarters in the Cranberry Woods business park—also will be added near the entrance to the neighborhood in the hopes of slowing down speeders along state-owned Glen Eden Road.
