UPMC Passavant To Host Town Hall Meeting For Heart Failure Patients

Thursday's forum is is free, but reservations are recommended.

Experts from the UPMC Advanced Heart Failure Center will host an educational town hall forum for patients and health care professionals about the latest treatments for severe heart failure, including medical therapy, ventricular assist device therapy, surgical approaches and heart transplantation.

About 5.8 million people in the U.S. suffer from heart failure, according to UPMC.

Participants will include Christian Bermudez, M.D., UPMC’s chief of cardiothoracic transplantation; Robert Kormos, M.D., director of UPMC’s Artificial Heart Program and co-director of heart transplantation; Ravi Ramani, M.D., UPMC’s associate director of cardiac transplantation, patients and others.

It will be held at 6 p.m. Thursday, June 21 at UPMC Passavant–McCandless, Assembly Hall, First floor, 9100 Babcock Blvd., Pittsburgh, PA 15237. Parking is free.

UPMC clinicians will provide an overview of treatment options and answer questions on topics including advances in the medical and surgical treatment of heart failure, determining who is an appropriate candidate for VAD therapy or heart transplant as well as social, emotional, and financial considerations.

UPMC patients will also share their personal experiences of dealing with heart failure.
