Tractor-Trailer Colides with Car, Closes Route 68 in Zelienople

The road could be closed for several hours.

Rt. 68 in Zelienople heading toward Beaver County will be closed for several hours Monday afternoon for cleanup of a major accident.

Police Chief Jim Miller said a car heading east on the roadway collided with a tractor trailer for an unknown reason. He noted it was raining when first responders arrived on the scene.

Miller said the female car driver was flown by medical helicopter to UPMC Presbyterian in Pittsburgh. Her male passenger was taken by ambulance to a hospital in Pittsburgh.

Miller said medics on the scene told police both are in serious condition. Zelienople firefighters extricated the driver from the Chevrolet Monte Carlo.

The driver of the tractor-trailer was not injured.

Miller said the people in the accident have not been identified yet.

Route 68 will remain closed until the state police reconstruction team finishes their investigation, Miller said.

The road is closed from just past the Zelienople fire station into Beaver County.

Harmony EMS, Harmony Fire Department and Cranberry EMS also were on the scene.
