Flash Flood Watch Issued for Cranberry Area

Flooding is being reported in the Pittsburgh region.

Get ready for even more gray skies and rain.

The National Weather Service has just issued a flash flood watch for Butler County, including the Cranberry area, through 6 a.m. Thursday morning. 

A watch already had been issued for most of the Pittsburgh region Tuesday evening.

Allegheny County remains under a flash flooding warning until 11:15 a.m.

Numerous reports of flooding have been taking place through the Pittsburgh region Wednesday morning, including the outbound Fort Pitt Tunnel, which recently reopened after being closed due to flooding.

Periodic thunderstorms are expected to continue across the area through Thursday evening. One to 2 inches of rain is possible.

The best chance for flash flooding will be this afternoon and evening as more numerous thunderstorms move into the area.

Here’s a look at the rest of this week’s forecast—and there is some good news ahead. Weather forecasters are predicting clear skies and sunshine by Friday.

  • Today: Showers and thunderstorms likely, mainly after 5 p.m. Some of the storms could produce heavy rain. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 84. Southwest wind 10 to 13 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New rainfall amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible.
  • Tonight: Showers and thunderstorms likely, mainly before 11p.m. Some of the storms could produce heavy rain. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 67. Southwest wind 5 to 8 mph. Chance of precipitation is 70%. New rainfall amounts between a half and three quarters of an inch possible.
  • Thursday: A slight chance of showers and thunderstorms before 11 a.m. Partly sunny, with a high near 79. North wind 7 to 11 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%.
  • Thursday Night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 56. North wind 5 to 10 mph becoming light after midnight.
  • Friday: Sunny, with a high near 79. Southwest wind 6 to 8 mph becoming north in the morning.
  • Friday Night: Mostly clear, with a low around 58.
