Lightning Strike Causes Garage Fire in Cranberry

Firefighters knock out the flames on the Eden Way Court home.

Fire damaged a home in the 100-block of Eden Way Court in Cranberry Friday evening.

Cranberry Fire Chief Brian Kovac said he believes a lightning strike around 5 p.m. during Friday's stormy weather caused the flames.

The fire was mostly contained to the home's integral garage. There also is smoke damage throughout the house, Kovac said.

Kovac said a man and his wife were at home when the building caught fire. They escaped without injury.

The home is not habitable for now. Kovac said the homeowners do have a place to stay in the area.

Volunteers had the flames knocked out within 15 to 20 minutes, the chief said.

Firefighters from Adams Area, Zelienople and Harmony also responded to the scene.
