Movie Moment: ‘The Fault in Our Stars’ Shooting in Pittsburgh Region

Extras currently are being cast for the film.

Yet another Hollywood flick is shooting in the Pittsburgh region, and this time the action is taking place in Oakmont.

Crews began shooting “The Fault in Our Stars” in the borough Monday, Aug. 26 and are expected to continue filming in the area through Sept. 7.

On Monday, trucks, lighting equipment and food tents—but not glimpse of the film’s stars—could be seen on 11th Street in between Hulton Road and Virginia Avenue as filming took place.

The movie stars Shailene Woodley, who won acclaim for her role in “The Descendents,” as Hazel Grace Lancaster, a terminally ill teen who falls in love with Augustus Walters, an amputee she meets at her cancer support group for kids.

Ansel Elgort, who also has been cast in the highly-anticipated “Divergent" film based on the series of best-selling young adult novels, plays Augustus.

“The Fault in Our Stars” is based on the popular novel of the same name by John Green.

Although the plot tackles serious topics, including love, death and terminal illness, the novel is known for its light touch and comic moments. Josh Boone is directing the movie version.

Besides Pittsburgh, which will stand in for novel’s location in Indianapolis, filming will take place in Amsterdam. A crew member on the set Monday also said scenes are expected to be shot at Oakmont Country Club and possibly in Bellevue, just north of Pittsburgh.

"The Fault in Our Stars" is scheduled to be released in 2015 and will be distributed by Fox 2000 Pictures, a division of 20th Century Fox.
