More than 1,000 Jeeps will invade the City of Butler to kick-off the second annual Bantam Jeep Heritage Festival on Friday August 10th. The Jeep Invasion will resemble a street party with the streets and nearby parking lots filled with Jeeps of every make, model and year. The event will begin at 6 p.m. and is sponsored by Butler Health System.
The Jeep Invasion will feature several types of entertainment offering a bit of fun for everyone. Butler Downtown will present their Centre City Summer Jam from 6p.m. - 10p.m at the West New Castle Street Plaza. Performances will include Ben Valasek, Kid Icarus, and Moon Drag.
The Associated Artists of Butler County and the United Service Organizations (USO) will be kicking up their heels at a 1940s Dance Party. Dancers from the Euphoric Ballroom of Butler will give demonstrations of popular 1940s dances such as the Jitterbug and Swing. These performances will be at the top of every hour starting at 5 p.m. A $1 dance will be offered for those who want to personally learn a few steps from the dancers. When demonstrations are not taking place, there will be open dancing to those who want to give it a try. A "best dancer" competition will also be held. In addition, the USO will be offering a salute to our troops by providing cards to send messages to soldiers overseas. Fifty percent of the profits will go towards the USO. Admission is $2 per person.
Four DJs located between Pearl and Wayne Streets will also fill the air with a variety of popular music.
Downtown restaurants are making plans to feed the masses that are expected to invade Butler.
In addition to the restaurants, there will be several vendors throughout the streets offering a variety of delicious foods to tempt the taste buds of the attendees with many traditional festival foods.
Jeep Parking and Street Closures
Jeeps will check-in for the Festival at Clearview Mall on Thursday evening and all day on Friday. Parking on sections of Main, North, Jefferson and Cunningham Streets will not be permitted after 2 p.m. on Friday. The Rodfathers Car Club will being parking Jeeps at 3 p.m. when registered Jeeps only will be permitted to enter the Invasion area at two access points located at Main/Wayne Streets and at Main/Pearl Streets. Traffic detours will go into effect at 3 p.m. The event begins at 6 p.m. and will end at 10 p.m.
Jeeps will also be parked in other parking lots throughout Downtown.
Butler Health System will also provide first aid services at North Street.
All Jeeps must be registered to participate, and a maximum of 1,500 Jeeps will be accepted. Those who have pre-registered will receive a numbered dash plaque.Online registration is available until July 22 and the cost is $5 per Jeep. After the deadline, Jeep owners may register during Registration Check In at Clearview Mall if space is still available.
Festival at the Big Butler Fairgrounds
The Festival moves to the Big Butler Fairgrounds on August 11 and 12 where a wide variety of activities will be held, including Off-Road Playground, Show 'n Shine, World War II encampment, national vendors, Jeep Team Challenge and more. Jeeps must be registered to participate in all activities and on-site registration will also be available at the Fairgrounds for those who did not register by the July 22 deadline.
