Art and Win: Meet Artist (and Seneca Valley Teacher) Jason Schorr

In anticipation of the Associated Artists of Butler County faculty show in Cranberry, Patch is featuring a different local artist each day leading up to the event.

Cranberry Patch will be at the opening night of the Associated Artists of Butler County faculty show at the Cranberry Township Municipal Center. The exhibit runs through Nov. 9.

“Poppy,” an original watercolor by Mary Alice Carmody-Diana, also will be raffled off at the event. Attendees must be present to win the artwork, which will be on display at the Patch table.

Today, we feature a profile on Jason Schorr, whose pieces “Pygmalion,” “The Great Work” and “Self Portrait Fig. 5” will be on display at the show.

Name: Jason Schorr

Education: Degree in art education from Indiana University of Pennsylvania

Bio: Jason Shorr is a local artist residing in the North Hills of Pittsburgh. He describes his work as a reflection of the intertwining of both the physical form and the networking of experiences and memories that creates individuals.

His paintings, drawings and prints exhibit his interest in the human body and its intrinsic beauty, both in form as well as in its complex functions.

His work has been exhibited with BODIES the Exhibition at the Carnegie Science Center as well as at the Whitaker Center in Harrisburg.

Shorr said he became interested in human anatomy at a young age and planned to pursue medicine in college. During his time at Brentwood High School, he became aware of his interest and skill in visual arts and rerouted his career ideas.

He currently teaches at the secondary level at Seneca Valley Senior High School in Jackson Township.
