Wobble, Wobble! 2013 Unicycle Nationals Coming to Cranberry Area

A Butler County unicycling club is hosting the 2013 North American Unicycling Convention and Championships.

A Butler County-based unicycling club will host the 2013 unicycling championships this summer in the Cranberry area.

The Butler Wobble, a collection of unicyclists formed in 2009, won the bid to host the 40th annual North American Unicycling Convention and Championships from July 21 through July 27.

“We’re a small, young club, but it was the enthusiasm and the support of the locals for the various charity runs and other non-professional athletic events in the area that made us stretch beyond our reach and bid on hosting NAUCC in 2013,” Lisa Krack, events director, said in a statement.

The competition sponsored by the Unicycling Society of America is hosted by a different club each year. This is the first time it will be held in Pennsylvania.

Around 300 competitors are expected, mostly from across the United States and Canada, as well as a few international competitors from countries outside of North America.

Competitions will be held in and around the Seneca Valley School District’s main campus, Moraine State Park, and The Center of Harmony on Mercer Street in Harmony.

Events include distance races—10K, time trial, crit and marathon— artistic freestyle, which is often compared to figure skating for having the same style and execution; basketball and hockey; trackracing; mountain unicycling and extreme-riding competitions.

Competitors must pre-register, but all events are spectator friendly and open to the public. Visit www.uninationals2013.com for a complete schedule and more information.
