Winter Storm in Cranberry: Closures, Cancellations and Delays

Plus, Cranberry police issue a warning to residents.

Cranberry Police are warning residents of slippery road conditions. The area’s roadways are covered in snow, Public Safety director Jeff Schueler said.

State police also shut down Route 28 in both directions from Tarentum to Harmarville for about an hour Wednesday afternoon.

Locally, Jason Daily, Cranberry’s director of public works, said crews have been on the roads since 7 a.m. Wednesday preparing and plowing the roads.

While the snow has been coming down hard since mid-morning, Daily said he expects to see a break in the precipitation by 3 p.m. He added crews likely will be on the roads playing "catchup" through rush hour.

“We’ll be out there as long a necessary for it,” he said. “Right now, we have all of our routes covered.”

As for the township roads, Daily said crews pre-treated the roads Christmas Eve in preparation for icy weather, which helped keep the roadways clear early Wednesday.

“That bought us some time during the freezing rain earlier this morning,” he said.

The snow, plus the Christmas holiday, also has affected trash collection.

Residents still are advised to put out their trash by 6 a.m., but to be aware that it may be collected at a later time because of the inclement weather. According to the holiday schedule, trash will be delayed by one day between Dec. 25-29 and again from Jan. 1-5.
