Traffic Alert: PennDOT Closing Squirrel Hill Tunnel, Various Bridge Ramps This Weekend

Drivers will face detours on Fort Pitt, Fort Duquesne, and Veterans bridges.

Cranberry area drivers, if you are heading south, east, or west, the following construction projects may impact your plans this weekend.

Parkway East
Tunnel rehabilitation
The inbound Squirrel Hill Tunnel on the Parkway East will be closed from 9 p.m. Friday through 5 a.m. Monday for rehabilitation work. The outbound (eastbound) tunnel will remain open.

Fort Pitt/Fort Duquesne Bridge Ramps
Surface treatment
The ramp that connects the inbound Fort Pitt Bridge to the outbound Fort Duquesne Bridge/North Shore will be closed from 10 p.m. Friday through about 5 a.m. Monday for improvements. The ramp from westbound Parkway East to the Fort Duquesne Bridge/North Shore will remain open. The ramps from Fort Pitt Bridge to Fort Duquesne Boulevard and the 10th Street Bypass also will be closed.

Bridge inspection
The left lane of the inbound Fort Duquesne Bridge will be closed from 6 a.m. to noon Saturday and Sunday mornings for bridge inspection activities.

I-579/Crosstown Boulevard/Veterans Bridge
Ramp improvements
The ramp from the inbound Liberty Bridge to Crosstown Boulevard will be closed to allow crews to continue wall rehabilitation from 8 p.m. Friday through 6 a.m. Monday.

Route 28
Traffic phase shift
Inbound Route 28 will be reduced to a single lane from 8 p.m. Friday through 8 a.m. Sunday between the former Millvale Industrial Park location and the East Ohio Street exit. Crews will be shifting traffic to the west onto new temporary pavement along the newly constructed walls.  

Banksville Road
Roadway improvements
Work to improve Banksville Road (Route 19) between Beverly/McFarland Road and the Parkway West (I-376) in the City of Pittsburgh, Mt. Lebanon Township and Dormont Borough will occur from 8 p.m. Friday through 6 a.m. Monday. Traffic will be reduced to a single lane in each direction.
