Serve’s Up! Cranberry Offering Volleyball Basics Course

The classes for youth will focus on offensive and defensive skills of the game.

It’s your turn to serve in Cranberry.

Starting in April, Cranberry’s Parks and Recreation Department will offer volleyball basic classes for youths.

The new seven-week course in the fundamentals of volleyball will be featured for the first time as part of Cranberry’s spring recreational program starting Sunday, April 7.

Fifth and sixth graders will meet in hour-long classes beginning at 1 p.m. at the gym inside the Cranberry Municipal Center. Seventh and eighth graders will meet from 2 to 3:30 p.m. on those same days.

The course will focus on learning the rules of volleyball as well as the basic offensive and defensive skills of the game, including passing, setting, hitting, serving, and blocking, a statement from the township said.

In addition, good sportsmanship, teamwork and fun will all be emphasized in the course.

To register your boy or girl between the ages of 10 and 12 for the course, contact Cranberry's Parks & Recreation department in-person at the information desk of the Parks & Recreation department inside the municipal center, by phone at 724-776-4806 x1129, or online at the Township's website, www.cranberrytownship.org/programs.

A $72 program fee for the course—$65 for township residents with Resident Discount ID cards—is payable at the time of registration.
