UPDATE: All Route 19 North Lanes Now Open

Pavers were working to repair the road after Thursday's water main break.

All Route 19 lanes in Cranberry are now open after crews dealt with the aftermath of Thursday on the township's main drag.

For most of Friday morning and afternoon, Route 19 North was down to a single lane just after American Way while pavers worked to make road repairs.

A 12-inch pipe ruptured under the highway at about 4 p.m. yesterday, flooding the nearby parking lot of the Dentistry for Kids office.

The break also caused both northbound lanes of Route 19 to be closed from the Cranberry Square Mall to Rochester Road while crews pumped water from the lot and worked to repair the line.

The closure caused traffic headaches for motorists on their way home at the peak of rush hour traffic. Drivers were detoured through the Cranberry Square shopping plaza to Executive Drive and then Rochester Road.

A single lane through the construction zone was reopened at about 7:30 p.m.

Jason Dailey, Cranberry's director of public works, said both lanes were reopened at about 1 a.m. Friday. The right lane was again shut down at about 8 a.m. when Pioneer Paving arrived on the scene to repair the road.

"They're looking to dig out the temporary patch and replace it with a permanent fix," Daily said.

Daily said a 12-foot section of pipe the crews removed yesterday from beneath the road was cracked. He said an answer for what caused the line to rupture is still being determined. Township manager Jerry Andree has estimated the pipes are about 46 years old.

"It could be a multiple of factors," Dailey said. "Trying to pinpoint exactly what can be difficult to do."

The break yesterday caused the dentistry office and The Streets of Cranberry shopping center to lose water service. There was no disruption to service elsewhere in the township.

"It was just isolated to that particular area," Dailey said.

Both northbound lanes were reopened by about 2 p.m. Friday.
