Reminder: Powell Road Bridge Closure, Detour Starts Monday

A temporary traffic signal also is in place during the construction.

Motorists are advised to be on the alert for new traffic patterns as construction takes place on the aging Powell Road Bridge over Brush Creek in Cranberry.

On Monday, June 3, a temporary traffic signal was put into place at Rochester and Graham School roads to accommodate the demolition and rebuilding of the bridge.

The solar-powered signals will operate from three trailers stationed at the T-intersection, one each for eastbound and westbound traffic on Rochester, and a third for vehicles exiting Graham School onto Rochester Road, according to the township.

Beginning Monday, June 10, a detour during the construction will direct motorists approaching Powell Road from the east two miles south over to Rochester Road.

The detour for traffic bound for Powell Road will be closed at the point of bridge construction while the old span is dismantled and the new one is built.

Traffic will be redirected to Glen Eden, Unionville, and Graham School roads during that time.

Plans to replace the 1938 Powell Road span, which is owned by Butler County, have been in the works for years, but an auto accident that damaged the bridge structure last October—and led to its being narrowed to a single lane—accelerated the replacement schedule.

The new span, which is expected to be complete in November, will include a 6-foot sidewalk-bike lane in addition to two motor vehicle lanes.
