Update: Canada Goose Caused Power Outages on Freedom Road

Thanks to a mixed-up bird, several neighborhoods and businesses along the corridor were without power earlier this evening.

This certainly gives new meaning to the expression "silly goose."

Power has been restored to Freedom Road-area homes and businesses after a Canada Goose flew into a transformer near the intersection of Freedom Road and Commonwealth Drive around 8:30 p.m. Thursday, causing power outages around the area.

Bruce Hezlep, president of the Cranberry Township Volunteer Fire Company, said the bird also caused downed wires.

Hezlep said police and firefighters were on Freedom Road to direct traffic after the goose struck the transformer. The outages also affected traffic signals along Freedom Road.

Penn Power was able to restore power to the area around 9:30 p.m.
