Photos: Zelienople Gets Ghouly with Annual Costume Parade

A host of costumed characters, including E.T. and a Thomas the Train Engine towing a “Frankenstorm,” gravestone, marched down Main Street in Zelienople Saturday for the borough’s annual Halloween parade.

The Zelienople Lions Club has sponsored the parade for at least 55 years. Representatives from the Lions Club, the borough, and others judged the costumes.

Cash prizes were handed out separately for group and individual costumes. There also were prizes for most the beautiful, funniest and scariest costumes.

Although she didn’t win a prize, 2-year-old Leah Malley’s long-sleeved turtle costume, made by her grandmother, was prefect for Saturday’s cool weather.

“We’re so glad,” said Leah’s mother, Deb Malley. “Today is perfect.”

After their 3-year-old daughter, Gianna, said she wanted to be The Little Mermaid for Halloween, Gabrielle and Mike Buccigrossi turned the Zelienople costume parade a family affair.

While Gianna wore a long red wig as Ariel, her 3-month-old brother, Vincenzo, was outfitted as sidekick Sebastian the crab. Keeping with the sea theme, the elder Buccigrossis dressed as pirates.
