Patch Reader Asks for Help Finding Good Samaritan who Called 911 on Jail Trail Saturday

Patch reader Lauren Snider's uncle was on the Eliza Furnace Trail Saturday when he needed 911 assistance. A man helped him, and the family is trying to track him down. Can you help?

From one of our Patch readers, Lauren Snider:

Could you help please!! My uncle passed away this weekend very suddenly. He went for a bike ride and collapsed.

He happened to have met and talked to another biker during the trip who tried to help by calling 911 for my uncle...This person was apparently riding on the "JAIL TRAIL" and chatting with him on Saturday when he collapsed. I'm going to guess he was a local....surely if you repost we can find someone that knows this person so that he can get a thank you from my family!

My Aunt feels like she needs to talk to this person to hear about what they were talking about and his last words. If you could share this on you wall to help me find this person, my family and I would be very grateful.

Her uncle is Gary Edward Chieffe, 61, of Shaler. Visitation is Tuesday from 6-9 p.m. and Wednesday, from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. at Neely Funeral Home at 2208 Mount Royal Boulevard, Glenshaw

According to the obituary, published in the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, Chieffe recently announced his retirement from PNC Financial Services Group, where he served as Management Information Systems Director.

The "Jail Trail" is the nickname for the Eliza Furnace Trail which parallels the Parkway East from downtown to Panther Hollow in Oakland. It is so nicknamed because it starts at the Allegheny County Jail.

He was on the trail Saturday, April 14, when he ran into trouble and people tried to offer help.

Can you help our reader track down the anonymous guardian angel?
