Patch Picks: Summer Camps

For this week's picks, Cranberry Patch took a look a summer camps around the region.

Is everyone ready to sit around a bonfire and roast marshmallows? While summer is still a ways off, registration for many summer camps is starting now. Get a head start by checking out our list of local and regional camps.

Troop D Camp Cadet – Started in Butler County more than 40 years ago, Camp Cadet is a week-long camp for those ages 12 to 15 with an interest in law enforcement. Camp is held at Camp Lutherlyn in Prospect from Aug. 7-12. State police at Butler are accepting applications now. Camp Kon-O-Kwee – Located just outside Zelienople, Camp Kon-O-Wee hosts a variety of camps throughout the summer for those ages 7 to 17. Sign up today for Teen Wilderness or High Adventure Camp. There is a price discount if you register before April 1.

Deer Valley YMCA Camp – You can take the whole family to Deer Valley Camp. With 742 acres and a 125-acre lake located south of Pittsburgh, Deer Valley is perfect for a summer session. The camp offers year-round resident camp, family reunions, women’s only programs, environmental education, corporate retreats and church groups.

The Butler County YMCA’s Summer Adventure Camp – The camp will be held from June 13 through Aug. 26 at the ARMCO Park in Slippery Rock. The programs run weekly and include environmental education, swimming, creative arts, and team building activities. Registration takes place April 4 through May 6 at the Butler YMCA. Camp Cranberry – Cranberry Township’s parks and recreation department offers a variety of camps throughout the summer. Join the fun with pee-wee camps for those ages 4-6, camp for those age 6-12, and a teen camp. Mike Diehl, Cranberry’s director of parks and recreation, said all residents should receive a brochure detailing the summer programs by early next week. Registration begins on April 2. The camps run the week of June 13 though the week of Aug. 15.
