More Thunderstorms Moving Through Area

The National Weather Service issues a special weather statement for Allegheny, Beaver and Butler counties

Get ready for more rain.

The National Weather Service at 3:30 p.m. Friday issued a special weather statement for Allegheny, Butler and Beaver counties.

Thunderstorms with heavy rain will be moving through the area, according to the forecast. Dangerous lightning and wind gusts of up to 40 mph will accompany some of these storms.

Forecasters also warn rain water could pond on roads and in low-lying area. Among the areas expected to be affected by the storms are Cranberry, Zelienople, Evans City, Wexford, Gibsonia and Mars.

Highways affected are Interstate 79 between mile markers 73 and 90 and Interstate 376 between mile markers 31 and 45.

The service warns motorists not to drive into areas where water covers the roads. The water depth may be too great to allow safe passage. Instead, drivers are advised to move to higher ground.
